PARIS, France -- Hotel chains are starting to feel the pinch of competition and the easing of travel demand. To protect market share some hotels are turning to innovative programs.
Following the lead of Traveller Hotel Group and taking a cue from the airlines, La Couvier Hotels, S.O. will begin charging its guests for amenities that, up until now, have been included in the room rates. The hotel chain, which operates over 300 hotels in Europe and South America, will introduce its new pricing policy on a trial basis at its flagship property here following this year's summer holiday travel season.
Rogei Chamlouis, spokesperson for the hotel chain said, "We see this move as a terrific benefit for the traveling public. Our hotels are all equipped with state-of-the-art security systems and most rooms have wonderful views. Those always have been and always will be available to our guests at no additional cost. But soon our guests will be able to select from a wide range of optional amenities paying for only those items that they actually use."
In advance of the policy change at the hotel, Err Travel was able to acquire a partial price list of the a la carte amenities and their associated costs. (Prices are in Euros.)
