THUGs to appear in major airports from Seattle to Miami
FAIRFAX, VA. — In a joint effort, two gun rights organizations are preparing to provide every American traveler with a firearm. In a joint statement released here today by the International Association of Gun Owners (IAGO) and the National Rambo Association (NRA), the groups plan “a cooperative, country-wide effort to make a firearm available to every person while they are away from home.”
In accompanying remarks, Larry LaPierre, Executive Vice President of IAGO, stated, “Toward our goal to see that every traveler is not just packing, but also ‘packing,’ we have developed a pistol exclusively for travelers. It’s called the ‘Traveler’s High-powered Unisex Gun,’ or THUG. The THUG will not replace any of the close 400 million guns already in the hands of U.S. citizens, but rather make it more convenient for them to be armed at every moment of their lives.”
The groups’ plan for distribution to travelers is two-fold: (1) approach The Gideons International to place handguns in the night stands next to every hotel and motel bed in the country, and (2) request that the International Society for Krishna Consciousness stock airport firearm kiosks located in baggage claim areas where guns can be rented. On return to an airport, travelers can simply return them to another kiosk located near the ticketing counters.
Wayne Pratt, Executive Director of the NRA emphasized the effort by saying, that the solution to travelers being victims of crimes while on the road is not fewer guns in the hands of criminals but rather more guns in the hands of travelers. Mr. Pratt said, “The only thing that can protect a traveler from a thug is a THUG in the hands of a traveler.”
